3.1.2.16. Piston rings

Installation
PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Before installation of new piston rings check a gap in their joints. It is meant that the gap between a ring and a platform of a landing flute is already checked and corresponds to norms (see subsection 3.1.2.9).
2. Spread out pistons assembled with rods and new piston rings in such order that the set of rings corresponded to this cylinder on which the gap will be measured in a joint.
3. Insert into the first cylinder the top ring and push the piston bottom inside so that the ring in the cylinder became perpendicular to its axis. The ring should be in the lower part of the cylinder, in the situation corresponding to the bottom dead point.
4. The gap is measured in a joint of a piston ring щупами and is equal to total thickness щупов inserted into a gap. Щупы should slip in a gap under small effort. Compare result to standard value. If the gap is more or less established, once again check correctness of selection of rings.
5. If the gap is too small, rings replace. It is forbidden to increase a gap in a joint of a piston ring by a podpilivaniye of end faces.
6. The gap should not exceed the top limit specified in subsection 3.1.2.1. Once again check correctness of selection of rings to your engine.
7. Repeat measurements for each ring established in the first cylinder, and also for each of the rings established in other cylinders. Store pistons and rings so that they were established in that cylinder in which the gap in a joint was checked.
8. After selection of rings and measurement of a gap, a ring it is possible to establish on pistons.
9. The maslosjemny ring (the lowermost on the piston) is established to the first. This ring consists of three details. Establish in a flute a divider / dilator. If on the piston the fixing pin preventing provorachivany rings on the piston is provided, be convinced available a pin, which впрессовывается in an opening in a piston flute.
10. Establish the bottom disk of a maslosjemny ring. At installation of maslosjemny disks to use the adaptation for clothing of rings it is impossible, as their breakage is possible. One end of a maslosjemny disk insert into a piston flute, between a divider and a horizontal platform of a flute, and, strongly holding the end of a disk inserted into a flute, get a finger in a flute the second end of a disk.
11. Operating precisely also, establish the second disk of a maslosjemny ring.
12. After installation of all details of a maslosjemny ring be convinced that the top and bottom disks are freely turned in a flute.
13. The average ring (number 2) is established to the following. On this ring the label which should be turned towards the piston bottom is stamped.

Prevention

Always arrive according to the instruction on packing of piston rings, different manufacturers can have different designations of the correct orientation of a ring. Do not mix the top and bottom kompressionny rings as they have various profiles of cross-section section.

14. Establish the adaptation for clothing of piston rings, be convinced that labels are directed towards the bottom of the piston and move the corresponding ring to an average flute of the piston. Do not plant ring joints on bigger distance than it is required for its passing over the piston.
15. Similarly establish the top kompressionny ring. Be convinced that labels are directed up. Do not mix the top and bottom kompressionny rings.
16. Similarly establish rings on other pistons.
