3.1.1.6. Gear belt

GENERAL INFORMATION

Removal

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Disconnect the battery from weight.
2. Block back wheels and put the car on the hand brake.
3. Release nuts of fastening of the right forward wheel, lift the car and establish on supports.
4. Remove the right forward wheel and a bumper apron.
5. Turn out spark plugs.
6. Remove drive belts (see subsection 2.6.4).
7. Remove an intermediate roller (it is specified by an arrow) belt of a drive of the compressor of the conditioner.
8. Unscrew an aktyuator cruise control (if it is provided) and put aside.
9. Uncover heads of cylinders (see subsection 3.1.1.3)
10. Establish under the engine a support (having enclosed previously a wooden board, but not under a drain stopper of the pallet).

Prevention

If you plan to remove both a gear belt and the oil pallet, will hang out the engine on a waist from above (see subsection 3.1.2.4.1).


11. Establish the piston of the 1st cylinder in VMT of a step of compression (see subsection 3.1.1.2).
12. Hook and get a cover of the viewing hatch. Fix a flywheel a big screw-driver from a provorachivaniye and ask the assistant to unscrew a bolt of a pulley of the crankshaft.
13. The pulley of the crankshaft should be pulled together from the crankshaft freely, without stripper application.
14. Remove two (on engines of 1,3 l) or three (on l engines 1,6 and 1,8) covers of a gear belt (see fig. Covers of a gear belt of engines 1,6 and 1,8 of l).
15. Remove directing flange of a gear belt, having paid attention to its correct orientation, the flange should be turned by valtsovanny edges outside.
16. If the belt is used further, put oriyentatsionny labels on a conducted gear wheel and on a belt, and also put on a belt to the shooter specifying the direction of rotation of the engine.
17. Weaken an inhaling of an adjusting bolt of a roller of a natyazhitel, then press a roller inside and again tighten a bolt. Remove a gear belt from a conducted gear wheel.
18. If the belt acts in film for replacement of an epiploon of a cam-shaft, or for removal of a head of cylinders, to remove a belt from a conducted gear wheel, or to turn on fastening of the right support of the engine there is no need.
19. If the belt acts in film from the car, it is necessary to unscrew two nuts (are specified by shooters) from a support of fastening of the engine (to turn on from below the car), and the top bolt of a support.
20. Unscrew the top bolt (it is specified by an arrow) and lower the engine, then pull up the lower part of a support (the rubber pillow can move) and stretch a belt between the top and bottom sections of a support of the engine, thus completely to remove a support it is not necessary.
21. If on a conducted gear wheel of a belt there are wear tracks or damages, unscrew a bolt and remove a gear wheel from a cam-shaft of final valves (see subsection 3.1.1.8). At a bolt otvorachivaniye a cam-shaft hold a big key.
22. Remove a gear belt from a leading gear wheel and get it from a motor compartment. If on a leading gear wheel there are wear tracks or damages or if it is necessary to replace a forward epiploon of the crankshaft, remove a leading gear wheel. The leading gear wheel should be pulled together easily. Otherwise get a gear wheel moving forward two screw-drivers, previously having closed rags the case of the oil pump.
23. Previously with paint put labels on the case of the oil pump and on a leading gear wheel that will allow to find situation the corresponding VMT in the absence of a crankshaft pulley.

Condition check

Prevention

It is forbidden to turn a belt inside out. Do not allow hit on a belt of the oil, cooling liquid or gasoline. It is forbidden to hold a gear belt a cam-shaft or the crankshaft from a provorachivaniye at a wraparound of bolts of the leader or conducted gear wheels. At removal of a gear belt it is not allowed to turn a cam-shaft or the crankshaft more than on some degrees (if it is necessary for combination of teeths).


Its pollution or excessive tension can be the reason of a rupture of a belt at operation of the engine.
Prevention

At belt break in operating time of the engine serious breakages because of impact of valves with pistons are possible. In this case check gaps in valves (see subsection 2.1), at the bent valves the increased gaps that points to need of removal of a head of cylinders and repair as a rule are observed.


PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Check existence on a gear belt of stratifications or the torn-off teeths. At such damages the strengthened wear of the distributor, the oil pump, or both cam-shafts will be observed.
2. If on outer side of a belt there are cracks or appreciable wear, check a condition of the leader and conducted gear wheels, existence on them задиров or chips.
3. If only one party of a belt is worn-out, check a condition of a directing flange of a belt and parallelism of conducted and conducting gear wheels.
4. At a doubtful condition of a belt, or at detection of obvious signs of damages replace a belt. Before installation of a new belt find the reason of its damage and eliminate.

Prevention

Skilled drivers recommend to change a belt at any its removal, irrespective of the reason as break of a belt can lead to an engine exit out of operation and to expensive repair. The manufacturer recommends to replace a belt through each 100.000 km of run.


5. Release a bolt of a natyazhitel, remove a natyazhitel and a spring. Check freedom of rotation of a roller and measure length of a spring in a free condition (1). If the length does not correspond to norm, replace a spring.
6. Put into place a natyazhitel and a spring. On engines of 1,3 l also check a condition of the top intermediate pulley. In the presence of obvious signs of wear or damages replace an intermediate pulley, having unscrewed a bolt. A bolt of a pulley tighten with the set moment.

Installation
PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Carefully clear a forward part of the engine in a place of a gear belt.
2. Again check combination of labels on a cam-shaft and the crankshaft (see fig. The provision of a conducted gear wheel of the cam-shaft, the corresponding VMT). If the conducted gear wheel of a cam-shaft of final valves acted in film, establish a gear wheel, сориентировав so that the groove on a forward cover of a basic neck of a cam-shaft coincided with the opening center in a gear wheel. Be convinced that the provision of a leading gear wheel of the crankshaft corresponds VMT and the risks made earlier, coincide.
3. Put on a belt the leader and conducted gear wheels. If the belt being in the use is put on, be convinced of combination of the labels put at removal.
4. Put on the crankshaft directing flange of a belt so that otbortovka were turned from a belt.
5. Put into place the bottom cover of a belt and a crankshaft pulley, check combination of labels of VMT.
6. Pulling a belt from a forward part of the car, weaken a bolt of a roller of a natyazhitel and turn on on 1/2 turns that the effort was made a roller from a spring.
7. Slowly turn the crankshaft clockwise on two complete revolutions, then tighten a bolt of a roller of a natyazhitel with the set moment. Check a belt tension on deflection size from a radiator, in the middle between the leader and conducted by gear wheels, compare deflection size to the standard.
8. Again check coincidence of adjusting labels. At the position of the crankshaft relevant to VMT of the piston of the 1st cylinder, the opening center in a conducted gear wheel of a cam-shaft should coincide with a label (see fig. The provision of a conducted gear wheel of the cam-shaft, the corresponding VMT). If labels precisely do not coincide, repeat procedure of installation of a belt.

Prevention

It is forbidden to start the engine to full confidence of the correct installation of a belt. At discrepancy of the moments of opening of valves and arrival of the piston to VMT serious breakages which elimination needs expensive repair are possible.


9. Establish other details as it should be the return to dismantling.
10. Start the engine and check its work.
