GENERAL INFORMATION

Prevention

Do not work in close proximity to fan blades to avoid traumas. The fan can spontaneously turn on!

Arrangement of the main relay of the engine, the relay of the conditioner and the fan relay in the main relay block

A. Conditioner relay
B. N3 fan relay
C. N2 fan relay
D. N1 fan relay
E. Main relay of the engine
F. Breaker of a chain of the fan

Check

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. If the fan is not switched off on the cooled-down engine, disconnect the conducting socket (it is specified by an arrow) from the thermoswitch of the fan and unscrew two nuts of fastening of a cover of the thermostat to the case (is specified the top nut). Now at ignition key turn the fan should turn on in the situation ON.
2. If the fan does not turn on, check the fan relay, conducting between the thermoswitch and the relay and the electric motor.
3. Short circuit of contacts of the thermoswitch (it is specified by an arrow), the thermostat screwed in a cover, is checked by an ohmmeter. Disconnect the socket of conducting and connect one of щупов an ohmmeter to the probe on the switch, and another щуп connect to the case.
4. On the cooled-down engine (the temperature of liquid is lower 82 ° C) an ohmmeter should to show the closed chain. On the heated-up engine (the temperature of liquid is higher 93 ° C) an ohmmeter should to show a gap.
5. For clarification of causes of failure of the electric motor (the fan does not rotate on the heated-up engine, or at the switched-on conditioner) check safety locks or fusible inserts (see subsection 12.1).
6. Then disconnect the socket on the fan electric motor (it is specified by an arrow) and connect the electric motor directly to the battery by means of wires from a fusible insert. If the fan does not rotate, replace the electric motor.

Prevention

It is not allowed to connect clips of test wires with each other, or to concern with them any metal part of the car.

7. If in the previous test it will become clear that the electric motor is serviceable, the relay, a safety lock or conducting are faulty. In this case it is necessary to check the relay of the fan and the main relay of the engine, being guided by the technique described below.

Relay check

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Find the main assembly block which is located on the left side of a motor compartment. On the cars equipped with the conditioner, there is the block of additional relays close to the battery (see fig. An arrangement of the main relay of the engine, the relay of the conditioner and the fan relay in the main relay block).
2. Remove the relay of the N1 fan and by means of an ohmmeter check chains between conclusions, being guided by drawing. On cars the Nippondenso or Bosch relay which numbering of conclusions differs are established. Check of the relay carry out in strict accordance with drawing.
3. If the relay appears serviceable, remove the main relay of the engine and check it according to drawing. Between pairs of conclusions 3–5 and 2–4 ohmmeter should show the closed chain. Between conclusions 1 and 2 closed chains should not be. If to conclusions 3 and 5 to put tension from the battery, between conclusions 1 and 2 should be the closed chain, and between conclusions 2 and 4 – a gap.
4. If all checked relays appear serviceable, it is necessary to hand over the car on diagnostics in service of car-care center of the dealer or in a specialized workshop. Independently to carry out further check it is not recommended owing to complexity and variety of the schemes used in the car.

Replacement

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Disconnect the battery from weight.
2. Disconnect the socket on the fan electric motor. The fan of the conditioner is located before a radiator and fastens on the right side by means of a plastic percussion cap (it is specified by an arrow). The right arrow specified the fan socket.
3. On the left side the fan of the conditioner fastens two bolts, one bolt for a rack of the lock of a cowl (it is specified by an arrow) and one from below. Access to the bottom bolt is provided through an opening in a bumper.

Prevention

On cars with the conditioner there are two fans. Before a radiator the N2 fan which is intended for additional cooling at turning on of the conditioner is established. A procedure for test of this fan and the relay just the same and for the N1 fan.

4. Merge a part of cooling liquid to disconnect the top hose of a radiator (see subsection 2.6.6), then disconnect perepuskny a hose in the top part of a radiator.
5. Unscrew two bottom bolts of fastening, then two top bolts (are specified by shooters) and remove from the car a casing assembled with the fan, having lifted a casing up.
6. Holding the fan for blades, unscrew a nut of fastening of a krylchatka and remove a washer (if is available). Remove a krylchatka from a shaft.

Prevention

Krylchatka of the N2 fan (on cars with the conditioner) is stopped shplinty, the nut is absent.

7. Unscrew bolts of fastening of the fan to a casing. Get the fan from a casing.
8. The fan is established upside-down.
