3.2.8. Check and adjustment of gaps of valves

GENERAL INFORMATION

For withdrawal adjusting шаюб the screw-driver and a magnet are used.

On diesel engines gaps of valves are checked and regulated on the cold engine.

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Uncover heads of cylinders.
2. Turn the engine before installation of the piston of the first cylinder in situation VMT. Thus the label on a pulley should coincide with a pin on the case of the oil pump.
3. Check that pushers of valves of the first cylinder have small люфт, and pushers of valves of the fourth cylinder sit densely. If it not so, turn the engine on one turn.
4. Measure according to fig. Sequence of adjustment of gaps of valves at installation of the piston of the first cylinder in situation VMT with the help щупов, inserted between a pusher and a cam surface, gaps of valves. Gaps inlet (Е) and final (And) valves not on all engines are identical and are brought in size tables and adjustments.
5. Turn the engine on one complete revolution and measure the gaps specified fig. Sequence of adjustment of gaps of valves at installation of the piston of the fourth cylinder in situation VMT. A sign of the correct adjustment is when the end щупа is entered, and then under easy pressing щуп caves in and enters inside.
6. For adjustment of gaps of valves it is necessary to replace adjusting washers from the top party of pushers, but removal and installation of adjusting washers needs the special tool. For this purpose turn a cranked shaft before installation of the corresponding cam by an edge up and by means of the special tool shown on fig. Use of the special tool for pressing of pushers in their openings, or otherwise press a pusher inside that it was possible to take and pull out a small screw-driver and a magnet an adjusting washer.
7. Before pressing a pusher, it should be turned so that the notch from the top party was turned to candles. Both pushers nestle at the same time, that is it is necessary to watch that both pushers nestled an adaptation leg.
8. Measure the removed washer by a micrometer and write down result.
9. Calculate thickness of a new washer for providing a demanded gap of the valve. The following formula is thus used:
Inlet valves: N= T + (And – 0,25 mm);
Final valves: N= T + (And – 0,30 mm), where "T" – thickness of the removed washer. "And" – the measured gap of the valve and "N" – thickness to new, subject installation of a washer.
10. Choose a washer which on thickness is closest to a demanded gap. There is a row from 25 sizes of washers in thickness from 2,2 mm to 3,4 mm through 0,05 mm.
11. For installation of an adjusting washer again press a pusher inside and insert a washer.
12. Measure a valve gap as it was described above.
13. Adjust gaps of other valves.

Prevention

The adjusting washer should not fall in the engine at all. In order to avoid it use a small screw-driver and a magnet as it is shown on fig. Use of the special tool for pressing of pushers in their openings. The washer can be after that is put forward aside and seized" by a magnet.
